31 Days of Halloween: Day 1, The Perfect Guy

First of all, we went to see this movie as part of date night (heh heh) and were in a crowded Texas theater, surrounded by some of the most open, vocal, and hilarious commentators of this great state.  Trust me when I say that the people you watch a movie with can alter your experience in ways you didn’t think possible.

This is a basic stalker movie.  Girl loves guy. Guy isn’t ready to get married and start a family.  Girl moves on to new, hot, charming guy.  Hot, charming guy turns out to be a total nutcase freak-a-zoid.  What does girl do?  Goes to the cops.  No luck.  Ends up handling the situation on her own.

The movie was luke-warm for my tastes.  Many moments weren’t as unsettling as they could have been.  The story was… good at best, and that’s being really nice.  They rushed through the laws surrounding her rights to protect herself against an intruder.  The ending made only some sense.

The main message I took from this movie, and one I know all too well personally, is that stalking law are so damned wishy-washy.  If you google woman killed by stalker, not only are there some absolutely shocking stories out there (cops, crazies, murder, oh my!) but there are 1.14 million results!  Laws absolutely, 10 percent, unequivocally, need to change to protect people (women AND men!) who are victims of crazy heads who can’t seem to suck it up and move on.

In any case, this is the kind of movie I’d watch if it were free on demand.  Glad we had discount coupons, I totally wouldn’t pay to see it in theater at full price if I knew then what I know now.  😉
